V is for Vilnius: a word-infused photo-essay…

I have struggled writing the blog posts for the trips I’ve done since my backpacking adventure finished two years ago. Probably because I put too much pressure on my language skills and vocabulary to try to adequately describe places I now only get short glimpses of. Maybe because my subconscious has recognised I’m a bit shit at writing before my conscious has accepted that and now it’s strategically implementing a writer’s block. Regardless, I’m going to try something different for the lovely 3-day trip I took to Vilnius, Lithuania, at the end of April. It’ll be a photo-essay (like this one. Or this one) but infused with words. Radical, I know. I’m a ground breaker, for sure. Or maybe just a lazy blogger.

**Note: Just in case it isn’t clear from the photos and words below, I absolutely loved this city and I’d visit it again in a second!

Dear Vilnius, I love it when your graffiti is in English so I know I’m not taking a photo of something irrelevant and/or ridiculous, but what the hell does ‘nimbostrati’ mean?

Irrelevant? And/or ridiculous?

Or be yourself?

Jesus wants you to enjoy your beer. The gnome doesn’t give a fuck

This wall doesn’t seem to give a fuck either

My evening meal of pulled pork burger before I attempted to eat it while sitting in a sawn-over bathtub and balancing my pint of local craft beer on the gravel-covered ground in a beergarden whilst listening to a not-quite-hipster DJ inching ever-closer to hipster status, playing  YG and Nipsey Hussle’s “FDT (Fuck Donald Trump).” Thank you, Spotify, for verifying that bit of music info, by the way

Not quite fluent in Lithuanian? No problem if you are fluent in Icelandic

It only takes a little sun to fall in love…

Just when you think Vilnius in the sunshine can’t get any prettier, hot air balloons arrive in the clear blue sky

Aww, that lonely paper cup…

I went to the market and fell in love with how the garlic looked

It’s not trespassing if no one saw you go in, right?

Chasing street art…

Of all the sports brands in the world, I didn’t have Putin and Donald Trump picked as Adidas wearers. Everything else here is obviously realistically plausible.

Yes, please. #startwithundoingbrexit

Thanks to treats like this at lovely little cafe Chaika, I’m seriously considering starting a vegan cake fan club. Don’t bother judging me, I’m doing plenty of that myself.

I went to a European capital and got lost in a forest. #directionallychallenged

Monochromaticity!

Input some clever comment that plays on ‘balloon’ and ‘baroque’ because isn’t this just too conveniently coincidental not to?

The best things are the random things

Vilnius: full of spac. And nimbostrati.

Today I’m listening to: Gidge – “Huldra”
